My mum has a hiatus hernia. It can cause acid reflux because your diaphram isn't fully above the stomach as it should be and the reflux causes the discomfort. If you do have that, you can take medication that stops your stomach producing as much acid. Not sure how helpful that is to your digestion though! Apart from that you need to sit still as long as poss after eating and don't lie down (not ever, just after a meal )

I am taking pills for ulcer or hiatus hernia, but Im going back again on Thursday to see if I can have a thingy stuck down my throat to see whats going on. Although having said that I stopped taking pills about 2 days ago and have had no symptoms. Perhaps its gone.

No, its much better when I am taking the pills. After about a week of stopping taking them, the discomfort comes back. I am waiting for the appointment to have a tube down me throat. Takes about three weeks to come through apparently.

Last night my ex was telling me that he takes bicarbonate of soda in water for heartburn (usually induced by curry). He reckons it works within seconds - much better than antacid tablets.

The Endoscopy is scheduled for Wednesday 11.45. I can be brave and not have anything, or I can have spray on the back of my throat to numb the gag reflex as the tube goes down, or I can have sedation.....
The nurse very helpfully said "Its fine once it has gone down the back of your throat".......

Tabitha I have had a duodenal ulcer in the past and I have a hiatus hernia........I have had two Endoscopy tests and both times I have asked for sedation. That way I don't remember a thing about it. They usually spray the back of my throat first and then I lie down and they give me the sedative and I don't remember a thing until I wake up in the bed after it's over. Of course I can only say what it was like for me but I'm sure you will be fine Tabitha..........I know it's easier said than done but try not to worry. If you want to know any more details you can always pm me!

Tabitha, I'd have the sedative, well I hae had the sedative. The spray relies on you managing to stay totally relaxed which is hard if you don't know what to expect. Good luck Denise x
