Well, I did it..... did my Reiki I today, and will hopefully be returning soon to do my Reiki II then my Reiki Master so I can go into practice.

It was amazing! The feeling of peace and being healed was indescribable.

I'd thoroughly recommend anyone to go for a reiki session.

It even has helped ease this ear infection of mine.

Will be practicing on the cats and the boyfriend tonight if they let me! ;D

Funny you should say that..... Yes and no. The best thing for an ingrowing toenail would be to have it surgically removed. Best done by a podiatrist or chiropodist......... no getting the pliars out here! Its a quick, but yucky procedure which doesn't take long, but reiki is very good for speeding up the recovery of old wounds and preventing and curing infections occurring from that.

Have booked in for my Reiki II on 16th April... yay! Am really looking forward to it. The next step after that will be the 3rd and final Reiki Master one, which will mean then I can legally practice on people and will hopefully be able to start a gradual career change if I can set a small practice up from home while I'm still doing my normal job and other alternative therapy courses.

I've also ordered the massage couch so should be with me in a few weeks so I can practice on friends and family now...

Can't wait!

Well, I did it (my Reiki II) and all I can really say was it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Reiki is very hard to explain apart from it is a universal healing energy, that will work whether you do or don't believe it will. It's not a religion, but something that can be used on yourself and others surrounding you for health benefits both physically and emotionally as it clears blockages.

I learnt alot yesterday and came home very tired, but happy

I'm looking forward to going for my Reiki Masters Degree when I feel ready for that, and have ordered my couch so will hopefully start practising on some willing volunteers soon!

Congratulations, Tiggs.

A good way to get some victims, er, I mean clients, is to give a demonstration somewhere, like a community group or mothers' union. Then the people there can have a free taster and might book some sessions or tell their friends about it. Perhaps you could volunteer at a group where sick people go so that you can practise your art. It can be difficult getting enough practical experience in these sorts of thing.

Is there a distant or absent reiki healing thing, where you treat people who are not in your physical presence?

What are these other courses you mentioned?

Good luck.

Thanks Gliondrach

Yes in the Reiki II we learnt how to do distant healing as it wasn't covered in Reiki I, so am looking forward to using that on a few people.

Thats a brilliant idea of yours about volunteering on people, or holding a demo. I will look into that, as have ordered the couch now, so will be able to treat patients properly. Would be great to see progress on a sick person healing through Reiki as most of the people I know, with the exception of my mum, who has agreed to be volunteer are in pretty good health, although it can be used on well people for just about anything, including stress.

I am hoping to do a variety of alternative therapy courses. I have just found out about an Indian Head Massage course I would like to do, and was training to be a naturopath, but have recently had to put that on hold till I can recommence in September, as my not so lovely work changed my shift pattern and days off which left me unable to go, so have had to find another naturopathy college which ties in with my days off. I'm really looking forward to starting that again in a few months.

I got into alternative medicines as I had alot of health problems which allopathic medicine did nothing for, and on having successful treatment on myself, have hoped to learn and pass on that knowledge to others eventually.

I did a body massage course with the intention of starting a stress counselling service. I would have just massaged people on the shoulders and upper back as they sat in chairs, to help them to relax, but I wanted a certificate to show that I knew what I was doing. I would have then taught them various relaxation techniques and helped them to devise ways of overcoming stressful situations. I didn't go ahead with that plan, though. Then I did a course in hypnotherapy and later a practitioner course in Neuro-Linguistic Programming. Again, I planned to start a practice but it would have cost too much money. I would have needed a swanky office and expensive advertising. I was going to offer free sessions at some sort of community group to gain a reputation but other things called for my time and I went on to other things.

Naturopathy, eh? That's what I'd like to do, although I prefer herbalism. The best medical herbalism school in the UK seems to be the one in Glasgow. The nutrition part of their course is called 'The vegan in you'. But, it takes place over several weekends and costs a few thousand pounds. It takes about 3 or 4 years. On top of that would be travelling and accomodation costs. Probably doubling the cost. I wish the Open University would do a course. I wrote to them a year or two ago to enquire but they didn't reply.

Gliondrach, it sounds like you have done some brilliant courses. I bet the hypnotherapy one was fascinating.

I know what you mean about the cost of setting up practices. When I start up I will have to run my practice from home to make it economically viable at the start..... but that's all in the future anyway.

Was this the herbalism school you mentioned?

http://www.herbalmedicine.org.uk/rootpages/home.shtml

Have just been looking at their website and they appear to do a distant learning course, don't know if that would be of any help to you? I do like the sound of the nutrtion part being vegan based though. That sounds brilliant.

Also, this may be of some interest. It's the place I was studying at, but I believe one of the colleges is alot nearer your neck of the woods then Glasgow would be:

http://www.naturopathy-uk.com/cnmlocations.html

You can choose part time or full time. I went for the one weekend a month option, but felt that 2 days worth of 8 hour lectures per day was alot to take in, as the style of teaching wasn't that good (but then again it was the London one) and I felt I was being read to out of a text book, so I felt I could have done the work at home in my own time for alot less money!

Hope some of that info may be of interest to you.

I am starting off on a 2 year part time course at this place in September. It's only the naturopathic nutrition side of things, so am looking out for a decent herbalism course to run aside it also.

Those naturopathy courses look fascinating. However, I don't have the money nor the time to spare.

Middlesex and also Westminster universities have herbalism courses. Westminster has a full-time and a part-time. Westminster also does Naturopathy.

The Westminster one definitely looks like an option, being that there are part time courses...... Hmm, wonder what the dates are. May be it's worth me contacting them. Thanks Gliondrach!

Tigs can you do Reiki on animals? My friend does horse massage and I told her what a maniac Ringo the Rabbit is and shes going to come round and Reiki him! Then he will be Ringo the Reiki-d Rabbit.

ROFL Feral!

Yep can do Reiki on animals. Have done it on Gizmo and going to on Desmond as he's not too well at the mo (that's 17 year old dogs for you.)

Your friend would probably do well on Ringo. Have tried with Benjy bun, but trying to get him to sit still for more than ten seconds was a mission in itself!

Great to see a thread on Reiki. I'd always been skeptical about alternative therapies, until a good friend of mine offered me a free session. She's very experienced and has now completed her Masters. I've never felt anything like it! I was going through a very tough time and she would invite me over for Reiki every week - it really helped me.

I also had a young boy (12ish) do Reiki on me once. Obviously he wasn't at the same level as my friend - it was a very different experience but powerful nonetheless.

I realise I might sound a bit loopy, but I would sincerely recommend it, particularly for emotional problems. I've even heard a lady claim that it was effective in alleviating (serious) physical pain.
